Infrared warmth: why the body loves its “native” 6–12 µm warmth

Infrared radiation is part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Heat comes from the vibration of atoms, so everything emits it — living and non-living things alike. Visible light sits in the middle of the spectrum, ultraviolet and X-rays on one side, infrared waves on the other.

The shorter the wave, the “harsher” the radiation

According to physics, the energy of a wave is inversely proportional to its length. Short waves (ultraviolet, X-rays) carry a lot of energy and can damage cells. Long infrared waves act gently — which is why warmth has long been used in physiotherapy.

The human body emits warmth too

The whole infrared range spans from 0.7 to 1000 µm. The human body emits in a narrow band of roughly 6 to 12 µm. Dr Malko calls it bioresonant: all metabolic processes in our cells are “tuned” to exactly this kind of warmth.

Why you can’t stay long in a sauna, but you can on bioceramics

Hot sauna stones emit “harsher” waves of about 3–4 µm, hot water about 1.5–2 µm. The body tolerates this kind of heat only briefly, which is why we spend limited time in a sauna or a hot bath. Tourmaline bioceramics emits warmth close to the body’s own radiation. According to the author, you can stay on this warmth for a very long time — even all night, as on the Wellness Mat.

What gentle deep warmth gives you

  • muscles relax and the feeling of tension goes;
  • blood vessels widen and local circulation improves;
  • tissues receive oxygen and nutrients more easily;
  • the body recovers more easily during sleep.

MasterPlus, the Wellness Mat, the Champion belt and other bioceramic accessories are built on this principle: they give the body not “heat”, but native, comfortable warmth.
